During the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897-98, the building was used a barracks and moved to Broadway after the rush. In 1908, Henry J. Lynch and James F. Kennedy opened their Dry Goods store. The Daily Alaskan reported on the opening: "The store is just about the handsomest in the city.” After 1920 the building was used for a restaurant, barracks, or remained vacant. The National Park Service bought the building in 1977 and began restoring the building to the 1908 handsomeness. In 1993 the entrenuepural spirt of Lynch & Kennedy re-opened as an art gallery.
Owned by Rosemary Libert & Karl Klupar, the store combines several of Rosemary’s passions. With a Bachelors of Arts from Boston College, she turned to the National Park Service and started working as a ranger for a few different parks before she come up to Skagway. Once in Skagway, and after marrying Karl, Rosemary began running a hotel gift shop. She began taking trips to remote eskimo villages and filling the store with unique Alaskan art. Once the current building became available, she ventured out on her own and reinvented the historic Lynch & Kennedy Dry Goods as an art gallery with fine jewelry.
